Child, Labor & International Trafficking: Survivors' Perspectives Part 1

The presenters are leaders of SAGE, an anti-human trafficking organization in the San Francisco Bay Area whose mission is to improve the lives of persons who have experienced or are at risk of sexual exploitation, human trafficking, violence and other forms of trauma. They share case studies to illustrate the depth of the problem of exploitation of very young victims. It is estimated that there are 27 million people enslaved world-wide; of those, 80% are female and 50% are children. From 2009 through 2011, SAGE workers aided children as young as 11 years old, with 13 years old as the average age of entry into prostitution. They work on ways to treat the after effects of the victims’ trauma; 94% of their clients suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
