Novelist Tom Lin, author of The Thousand Crimes of Ming Tsu, discusses memory, history, and the creative process of writing fiction. This video includes a writing exercise involving historical research and how a fiction writer can interact with such material as part of the larger creative process.

Tom Lin was born in China and immigrated to the United States when he was four. A graduate of Pomona College, he is currently in the PhD program in English at the University of California, Davis.
