Joe Hiatt explains the basic background, lifecycle, and risk
levels for HIV. This worldwide epidemic starting in the 80’s was a deadly
virus. Though it is still dangerous, scientists have developed methods to fight
HIV more effectively. By targeting the host cells in our body rather than the
virus itself, we can more easily fight the epidemic. Hiatt explains immunity to
HIV, and why this happens. He also addresses how the medical community can
further investigate genes and how this relates to the HIV virus.
