Dr. Stephanie Chervinko
CSU, Chico, Counseling and Wellness Center
Dr. Chervinko starts her presentation by defining stress as “an automatic physical response to any stimulus that requires you to adjust to change.” She explains that not all stress is “bad’; stress can motivate people, keep them alert, and help them perform at their peak level. But stress can have a negative effect, including physical symptoms, panic, and inability to concentrate. Dr. Chervinko then lists warning signs that students should watch for before their stress levels get out of hand. She concludes by offering some coping methods.
