Google the word “serendipity” and this is what you will see: “The occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.” Dr. Tony Waters lived and worked in Thailand for two years. He was invited to a university there to help set up a PhD program, but ended up experiencing so much more. Dr. Waters learned that the academic culture there was one of improvisation. Instructors are encouraged to pursue academic creativity, whether it is trying new classes, new research projects, or new ways of teaching.
