The UFW was founded in 1962 by César Chávez and Dolores Huerta to fight for the rights of farmworkers. Today, they continue that legacy by demanding federal protections from extreme heat. Most farmworkers are Latino immigrants who pick our food in dangerous conditions with little to no legal protection. The UFW led efforts to pass heat safety laws in California, Oregon, and Washington, and now fights for national protections so that all farmworkers have the right to water, shade, and rest breaks.
