Ryan Van Meter is the author of the essay collection, “If You Knew What I Know Now” (2011). His work is included in several anthologies, including “Best American Essays 2009.” Many of his essays are about living in the closet as a non-heterosexual person and the process of having to learn who you are. In this presentation, Van Meter reads two pieces based on memories of his grandmothers that are both touching and funny. In the course of answering questions from the audience, he then shares the meticulous ways in which he approaches his craft.
